Primavera retreat

Every once in a while I need to leave the city and spend some time in nature to reset my brain. This weekend my Scout group went to a cabin called Primavera. It has no running water or electricity but for the weekend that’s just perfect.

Since it’s relatively far away from large cities, I brought along a tripod hoping to capture some astro photography, but the weather had other plans. For the entire duration of our stay there was nothing but heavy fog, which I recon actually worked in my favor.

I decided to go B&W on these since (1) it seemed to fit the mood better and (2) it would help cover up the high ISO noise in the images since it got pretty dark inside the cabin in the evenings.

I shot a lot on my Ricoh GRiii due to it's sheer convenience of being both pocketable and a powerful workhorse of a camera. The 28mm lens also helped to capture just how thick the fog was. I took only a handful of images with my EOS RP + EF 50mm f1.8 this time around.

One of the kids became interested in photography this summer, so despite the cold I dragged her out to shoot a bit in the fog. How often do you get that opportunity after all. Our hands were freezing after some 30min but some results were certainly interesting

The evening were quite calm. Occasionally someone would get up and add wood to the fire stove that kept the main room warm, but by 10PM even most of the adults called it a night and retreated to their sleeping bags in the furnace heated room in the attic.
